Alice's Journey
Alice Faye Duncan (nee Hampton) was born on February 11, 1946 in Alexandria, Louisiana to parents, Milton Hampton and Lila Hampton (nee Watkins) who preceded her in death.
Also preceding her in death was her oldest sister, Jean Caldwell (nee Hampton); surviving siblings, Willie Pollard (nee Hampton) of Maryland and Charles Hampton of Missouri.
As a young girl, Alice attended GRANT PARRISH TRAINING SCHOOL in Colfax, Louisiana. She loved to sing and dance and performed both with amazing talent. She was fond of watching local majorettes perform and eventually self-taught herself to replicate their moves perfectly. Later she led a parade as a young girl. She was a playful and mischievious child, oftentimes initiating and participating in pranks involving other kids but, she always seemed to avoid punishment.
While in Colfax, she attended HOPEWELL BAPTIST CHRUCH and sang in the church choir. She loved to imitate the actress Shirley Temple in skits at home with older sister, Willie. Years later when the family moved to Kansas during her high school years, Alice tried out for the school majorette program and was successful. Some friends and family members believe she may have been the first black majorette at TOPEKA HIGH during those years. As she continued to develop new friendships she began to be known for her infectious, uniquely joyful laugh! The family attended NEW MT. ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, Reverend Robinson, pastor and NEW JERUSALEM, Reverend E.D. Miller, pastor.
Alice was married to Albert Duncan, Sr. from 1978-1986. He survives. She leaves behind five children: Anthony Hampton (Leslie), Eric Reed, Terry Hampton (Eileen), Joe Ann Hampton-Kelly (Leonard) and Albert Duncan Jr.; six grandchildren, Joshua Huntsberry, Siena Ferguson, Tevin Ferguson, Sehana Hampton, Safiyah Hampton and Seth Hampton; four great-grandchildren, Jamorion Huntsberry, Damia Huntsberry, Joelina Huntsberry and Ermias Davis; six nieces and nephews, Angela Caldwell, Yolanda Caldwell, Andre Caldwell, Elaine Pollard, Matthew Pollard and T.C. Smith, as well as a host of loving uncles, aunts, great cousins, great nieces, nephews and awesome cousins.
Alice worked many jobs throughout her lifetime but her most rewarding was devotion to her children and their families, following the teachings of Jesus Christ and harvesting and nuturing new and existing acquaintenships and friendships.
