The Life of Chester Rocio, Sr.

Chester Herbert Rocio, Sr. was born October 27, 1941 to James Rocio, Sr. and Orange Powell Rocio in Bordelonville, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents; four of his brothers, Jonathan, Coby, James, Jr., and Anthony; his two sisters, Hannah Rocio Moss and Maxine Rocio Matthews; his eldest daughter, Lizell; and one of his grandsons, Shaquille Rogers.
Chester, Sr. worked as a longshoreman at the Port of Beaumont for more than 30 years. He retired in May 1996 from his position then later worked full-time as a custodian for New Light Christian Center Church on Dowlen Road. He then retired for good after working for another 15 years.
His main pastime was fishing. He not only kept up his personal boat and equipment, he also took trips to Sabine Pass to reel in his catches. Chester, Sr. was also an avid fan of classic Western shows, such as Gunsmoke, The High Chaparral, and Big Valley, watching re-runs whenever he had the chance. He also possessed a CB radio in his older pick-up truck. Using his chosen handle of "Soup Bone", he'd talk to other CB radio owners statewide in the afternoons while driving around. Sports-wise, his favorite football team was the New Orleans Saints; he would usually wear his beloved cap showcasing his love for his team along with his matching jersey. During quieter times, he would collect family photos and create large collages that would cover his living room walls.
He leaves behind a long legacy. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty M. Harmon Rocio; his  children, Yolanda, Pamela, Greg, Sr.  Chester Jr. and Maegan; his  sisters, Dianna Dent [David], Geraldine Dent, Beverly Rocio Ford, Charlotte Sparrow [Ernest]); his brothers, Larry Rocio [Kathy] and Glenn Rocio [Sandra]); his granddaughters, Dr. Ronnecia Rocio-McCain and Alexis Rocio; his grandsons, Gregory Rogers, Jr. and Chester Rocio, III; his great-granddaughters,  Ra'Janae Rocio, Miracle Rogers, and Alana Rogers; his great-grandson, Dillon Rocio; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
