Obituary
Debra Wells McCartney, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, godmother, friend, minister, life coach, entrepreneur and intercessor, transitioned from labor to reward on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Debra was born July 1, 1973, to Evelena Wells and the late Andrew Wells Jr. in Galveston, Texas.
Debra was a devoted wife to, the love of her life, Derrick W. McCartney of Beaumont, Texas. The two were wed on March 15, 1997. Altogether, the God- fearing couple shared twenty-six wonderful years of marriage. From this union, God blessed them with two beautiful daughters, DeAundrea N. McCartney, and Dajia J. McCartney, both of Beaumont, Texas. Debra loved her family dearly and enjoyed every moment she shared with them. The love she expressed towards her family was a true depiction of the Father's love through her. It always gave her such great joy to be able to serve her family and see them happy. Her words of wisdom, fashionable attire, and wittiness will forever remain in the hearts and memories of her loved ones.
Debra was a woman who emphatically believed and taught the Word of God. The most vital principle she undoubtedly stood on was to "trust God in all things". Her love for God started as a young girl, attending Greater Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas. Debra believed in enjoying life and doing what she loved; she made the conscious decision to follow Christ and only pressed forward. Alongside her husband, in 2004, she became a licensed minister at the Gospel of Jesus Christ Church in Beaumont, Texas under the leadership of Bishop Castile and Min. Vanessa Colbert Jr.. Her love for God and his people was shared through various ministry assignments and engagements. Staying the course, she was later ordained in 2010. Debra's unique gift of teaching and preaching the word of God, has not only touched, but helped transform the lives of many. After years of service and dedication to the kingdom of God, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Los Angeles Development Church & Institute. Writing the vision and making it plain, Debra went on to establish a women's group titled "Heart of a Woman/H.A.W". Heart of a woman was designed to "inspire, encourage, and empower women to pursue wholeness for life by application of God's word". She was a successful business woman, owning and operating both, Appointed Time Enterprises, wedding and event décor, and Life that Thrive, where her goal was to inspire, invoke, and ignite individuals through life coaching. There was never a dull moment when Debra entered the room. She knew how to have fun and show others how to enjoy life. You could always look for her to perform her extraordinary dance moves and turn the party out; she was definitely the life of the party. One spoon of Debra's gumbo was known to change your life. The memory of Aunt Bubbie, Debo, Deb, D. Wells, God mother, Momo, Boss lady, and Miss Make it Happen, will surely live on.
Debra is preceded in death by her father, Andrew Wells, Jr.; father-in-law, Lawrence McCartney, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Estella Lee McCartney.
She leaves to cherish her legacy and memory: husband, Derrick McCartney; daughters, DeAundrea McCartney and Dajia McCartney; mother, Evelena Wells, all of Beaumont, Texas; siblings, Ronald Wells (Julia) of San Antonio, Texas, Martha Williams of Beaumont, Texas, Isabelle Moore (Ronnie), Tony Wells (Tasha) of Houston, Texas, Rita Davis of Beaumont, Texas , Brenda Wells of Atascocita, Texas and Andrew Wells, III of Beaumont, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
