Jeanitha Ann Goodie was born in Beaumont, Texas on July 7, 1955 to Gladys and Lawrence Goodie Sr.  Jee-Jee started her life with her extended family on Roman Street in the North end of Beaumont.  She lived there with her parents, siblings and her cherished grandmother "Mama Goodie".  Family was everything on Roman Street and there was always fun to be had with all her extended family and first cousins who seemed more like siblings at the family home.  She loved her Aunts and Great Aunts and had many cherished memories and stories to share.  As a teen she moved to the South End and Doucette Street became her playground!

In elementary school she was a dancer.  She had all the moves, and could outdance anyone. Her father would always joke that while many of his children played sports, Jee was best at playing hookie from school.  She graduated from Charlton Pollard, Class of 73!  She was never a fan of the 9 to 5 and had quick stints with employers like Southwestern Bell, Kmart, and Crazy Jose's.  Those all lasted more or less than a week. She even went to welding school!  The welding hat came in real handy during the solar eclipse.  Now while she did not particularly excel in the work force, if there was a party or some fun to be had, you could find her there.  You could find her telling a story or reneging in cards.  Good luck catching her or the truth.  She enjoyed drinking, smoking, and fussing, and was quite good at all of these things!  You could hear her singing the blues with Bobby Womack or feeling like a Natural Woman with Aretha.  She loved her music and spending time at Aunt Nin's lala bar!  She enjoyed her cartoon network, westerns, and crime shows.  She liked talking to the tv and yelling at the movie screen at the movie theater!

Jeanitha is best known for her wild and free spirit.  Her free spirit got her hit by a car when she was little.  Reports of the accident vary as Yvonne says she snatched away from her, Jee said Yvonne pushed her.  We will never know. She loved hanging with her friends Rodney, Johelen "Josie" Thibodeaux, Theresa Ardoin (RIP), Veronica (RIP), and Winky (RIP).  She loved spending time with Ms Willie Mae (RIP) and the whole Pratt Clan. She was quick to make a joke, start a fight, and then forget what she was fighting about.  She was always ready to go, and when the horn blew so did Jee, blowing in the wind, catch her if you can. Her Mom Gladys would send her to the store for a few items but she would come back the next day sometimes with the items, mostly without.  She was a great cook when she could sustain the attention.  She would forget she was cooking and burn food or forget to put the most basic ingredients like sugar in a bread pudding.

She will mostly be remembered however for her kindness and caring nature.  While she enjoyed the fun, she also enjoyed her faith, loved her church, and had a heart of gold.  This is the greatest gift she shared with her daughter Joy but did not pass on the gift of rhythm.  She was a good person who would give you the shirt off her back or her last dollar.  She could hustle up another so it was no matter.  Really, take it.  She cared for many people throughout her life including her father, siblings Yvonne and June, as well as Aunt Sis when they came to her nursing home.  She also ran her unlicensed day care and lovingly cared for her nieces and nephews when they were little.  Her grandchildren will forever cherish their beloved "Granny-Pooh".

Jee had a life changing brain aneurysm almost 20 years ago.  She had an intense will to survive and learned to walk and talk again. She didn't let a little dementia stop her and could recall everything that happened in 1980 but couldn't remember what she ate for breakfast. She spent her last 19 years advocating for her fellow residents at Beaumont Rehab and was able to care for many relatives and friends through the years who either came to have rehabilitation services or came in their transition phase.  She will remind you that she was never paid for her services and would sometimes comment on how difficult it was watching so many people come and then ultimately leave the nursing home through death.  She defeated all the odds for many years living with heart disease until her arteries could not sustain her life anymore.  She continued to enjoy her Crown, Coke, crossword puzzles, coloring books, and cigarettes until her death.

Jeanitha is preceded in death by her parents Gladys Goodie (1988) and Lawrence Goodie Sr. (1998), and her siblings Victor Paul Goodie (2003), Lawrence Goodie Jr. (2017), Yvonne Moore (2019), Kevin Daire (2010), Diane Chargois (2018) and sister-cousin Rosa Ladia (2017).  She leaves behind to cherish her memories her sister Lisa Goodie (Terrell Williams), daughter Joy (George Leary), grandchildren Elizabeth and Lawrence "Kobi", Sister-Cousin Jacqueline "Jackie" Goodie, Nieces and Nephews Eric Moore, Timika Peterson (Sean), Danielle Goodie, Felicia Goodie, Valarie Steen, Charles Steen, LaKesha White (Darwin), Brandon Marks-Daire, Raven Blanchard (Jericho),  Mark "Bubba" Daire (Shyleisha), brother in love Charles Moore "Charlie Mo", Sisters in Love-Beverly Goodie, and Tracey "Rachael" Daire, and her precious GrandGodson, Logan Peterson.  She will be remembered with a smile by all her family and friends, especially those at Beaumont Rehabilitation who have taken such great care of her for the past 19 years.
