Life Reflections

JoHelen Lindsey Stephens was the first-born child of Sherman and Gladys Lindsey on May 19, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas.
JoHelen attended Beaumont Schools and graduated from Lamar Junior College with an Associate Arts Degree. She married Nathaniel Stephens and had five sons: Nathan Wayne, Kentha Earl, Darrell Lee, Nathaniel Jr.(deceased), and Jeffrey Ryan. She loved her boys with
all her heart!
She worked with the First Head Start program in the city. She returned to Lamar College for Sociology training.
JoHelen never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Her passion was for the elderly and young people. She was Granny, Nanny and Mama to many and that pleased her.
She had membership at several churches in Beaumont and in California. She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church most of her life under the pastorage of Rev. Bailey and in 1999 under Pastor Dwight Benoit. She was the recipient of many proclamations and awards.
Her memories will forever remain in the hearts of her sons, Nathan Wayne Stephens (Debra) of Conroe, Texas, Kentha Earl Stephens and Darrell Lee Stephens (Zena) of Beaumont, Texas and Jeffery Ryan Stephens (Rita) of Torrance, California; sister, Hazel Bernyce Andrews of Oxnard, California; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
